Tiesh, Sri Lanka’s much sought-after brand of jewellery, mesmerises jewellery lovers this forthcoming festive season with the launch of its exquisite ‘Collection de Perles’.
This unique ‘Collection de Perles’ is a lasting tribute to the ‘Queen of Gems’ which has enticed countless women over the passage of time. Pearls possess an allure that is steeped rich in history and classed as the most treasured jewellery in the world.
Inline with Tiesh’s contemporary designs, the collection consists of rings, earrings, pendants, necklaces and bracelets, all of which have all been enhanced with the use of Sri Lankan precious stones and well as diamonds.
Speaking at the launch, Tiesh Directors Thiyasha and Ayesh de Fonseka said: “This new collection of pearl jewellery caters to the demand and suggestions made by our ever-growing clientele which has a fascination for pearl encrusted jewellery. The intricate designs feature natural pearls set in precious metals of white gold, yellow gold, rose gold and silver. As in all creations by Tiesh, this Collection de Perles too will leave customers spoilt for choice with an array of dainty albeit classic designs to more elaborate one-of-a-kind pieces.”
Since its discovery by ancient fishing tribes, pearls have inspired the most impressive historical events with the Roman General Vitellius financing an entire military campaign by selling just one of his mother’s pearl earrings. The most luxurious banquet in history was hosted by Queen Cleopatra who drank a crushed pearl to prove the wealth of Eygpt as opposed to Rome as both empires prized the pearl above all other gems. Egypt’s use of pearls dates back to 4200 B.C, while Roman women were driven into a frenzy by upholstering their furniture with pearls and embellishing their gowns with pearls to display their wealth.
Sri Lanka too has a rich history associated with pearls with the ancient chronicle Mahavamsa mentioning the thriving pearl industry in the port of Oruwella, in the Gulf of Mannar. It also records that eight varieties of pearls accompanied Prince Vijaya’s embassy to the Pandyan King as well as King Devanampiya Tissa’s embassy to Emperor Ashoka.
Since its launch in 1997, Tiesh (earlier known as Lakmini Ltd.), has burgeoned into a brand of great repute. Its recently opened 27,000 sq ft Gems and Jewellery Emporium in Kandy goes on record as being Sri Lanka’s largest ever. It features an exquisite array of authentic gems and handcrafted pieces of jewellery set in both precious and semi-precious gem stones.
Tiesh exudes an aura of elegance intermingled with class, on par with internationally acclaimed jewellery stores featuring ultra-modern state-of-the-art interior designs. On display are beautifully crafted items valued for their unique craftsmanship and attention to detail. The reasonably priced products often feature one-of-a-kind gemstones.
Tiesh offers more than its contemporary styles in jewellery, as it is also the preferred choice for tourists who visit the two branches in Kandy and Colombo to obtain a holistic knowledge about every aspect of being a jeweller. They are given a hands-on experience at the showrooms which house a gemological museum, a testing laboratory, an auditorium, a jewellery workshop and a replica of a gem mine which is the piece-de-resistance for both local and foreign clients.
