Q: Can you tell us about the new song and how it compares to your previous releases?
A: It’s a whole new concept – the style, lyrics, music, video, locations… everything is new. In terms of the main theme and concept, mostly you get to hear sad, negative love songs on local radio and TV these days. This song can influence to set up a new trend. Musically we have tried to add and mix up some new tones and elements.
The music video is something that you won’t see very often in Sri Lanka. We have filmed it in about 20 meters out in the deep blue sea aboard the ‘Topaz’ boat of Sail Lanka Charter. It was fun and exciting. It was a truly amazing experience to film a music video in that way.
Q: Wasn’t it hard to film out at sea?
A: It was extremely hard with the heavy wind and waves, but luckily it didn’t rain on that day. The sun was out and it was hot and sunny. My crew at Yashan Productions worked really hard to record all the shots on time and not to forget the Captain Anura and Pradeep, the Sales Manager of Sail Lanka Charter. Their support was limitless to make the filming easy and successful.
Q: Why did you want to film it out at sea?
A: That’s obviously to give all my fans a new experience, a new set of visuals to entertain them in a different way since we see the same old love-cry-breakup scenes in most of the music videos nowadays. This is an energetic, positive, happy love song which makes you feel good when you listen and I promise it won’t make you feel down and depressed.
Q: Why do you feature rapping in every song?
A: Not on every song. There’s a good number of my songs in which I haven’t rapped. I don’t plan to add up a rap on every song. It’s about the feel, flow and style; it depends on music, lyrics and the style of the song. If we feel the flow is there to include a rap according to the music and lyrics, then only we start working on it.
Q: Is singing your full-time profession?
A: Yes. I am a professional musician. But I love producing music and videos for others as well. I enjoy myself as a host too. Whatever I do it’s all about entertainment so it’s all about fun and trying new things. I love my job.
Q: Any plans of pitching your music internationally?
A: Yes. Surely yes in future. That’s the main reason why I put an extra effort in the making of my music and video clips. All I want to do is take it very seriously and work hard to make it to the international arena.
Q: How can your fans reach you?
A: You can email me at [email protected], address of my official FB fan page is, www.facebook.com/darealyashan and catch me up on Instagram @Yashan_insta.
Q: Can you give us details about the ‘Meet & Greet’?
A: ‘Meet & Greet’ is the best news for my fans. I am planning to do it on Friday, 19 August at Unity Systems Solutions, Unity Plaza from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. I would like to invite all my fans to come, be a part of it because it will be a great opportunity for you to show your love, talk and take a picture with me, win gifts plus exclusively autographed DVDs of ‘Jeewithe Obamai’. See you there.
Q: Anything special that you want to mention?
A: Yes I would like to thank my sponsors, Asus-Unity System Solutions at Unity Plaza, Sail Lanka Charter and Appy Fizz. All of their contributions played a big part in this project to make it a successful one. This is my main release for this year and also the very first engagement of all those brands with an artist. So we all are excited about it.
