The executives and staff at The Palms Beruwala pledged their commitment in saving energy by observing Earth Hour on 29 March. All lights in the main restaurant, lobby and pool areas were switched off and guests were invited to light candles by the poolside, thereafter they enjoyed their dinner outdoors, in the cool sea breeze. Recycled candle holders and koppra lamps were lit by the pool deck and garden areas. A memory wall was made by the poolside, where guests could pen down their thoughts. The live band for the evening was not in attendance. Instead the guests joined in a sing-along and soon there were songs from China, Ukraine, the UK, and local guests joined in by singing famous local songs. It was a fun filled evening truly depicting ‘One World One Voice’. At the end of Earth Hour lights were switched on and a cake was cut by the guests to celebrate Earth Hour. With its endeavours the hotel saved approximately 120 units of electricity within the hour.
