Traditionally a time of expressing gratitude for bountiful harvests, Thanksgiving Day is remembered for the symbolic feast that represents the festival. As a result, it is often referred to as Turkey Day.
From as far back as 1621, when the first Thanksgiving feast is commonly believed to have taken place in Massachusetts, a roast turkey has been the centerpiece at this festive meal.
Keeping traditions alive at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, Chef Wasantha, Executive Chef of the Hotel, along with Pastry Chef Jagath Wijesinghe, has prepared a Thanksgiving menu for customers to take home and enjoy in the familiar surroundings of their own dining rooms, whilst clocking in some valuable family time.
Orders will be taken at Goodies, the hotel’s pastry shop, and will be ready for collection on Thanksgiving Day, which falls on 25 November this year.
On a busy Thursday, take home a roast turkey with cranberry sauce, giblet gravy, roast sweet potatoes and vegetables for Rs. 4,000 nett per kilo, and take the credit for the veritable feast as your guests indulge!
Or opt for a roast spring chicken with rubesco sauce, sweet potatoes and vegetables for Rs. 3,200 nett per kilo or a honey roast ham with apple sauce for Rs. 4,200 nett per kilo. Orders for turkey will be undertaken for a minimum of four kilos.
Dessert is covered too! The delicious pumpkin pie serves 12 portions for just Rs. 1,600 nett, whilst the apple pie at Rs. 1,800 nett also serves 12. These Thanksgiving pies are best served warm, and if cake is your dessert of choice, pick up a fruit cake that serves eight for Rs. 1,600 nett.
It’s recommended to place orders by 23 November by contacting the Goodies team on 2491804. Whilst enjoying the meal, the Cinnamon Lakeside Chef’s advise guests to capture the essence of the festival by being thankful for God’s blessings over the last year, and sharing the day with the people they hold dear.
