FT Profile: StigmataStigmata are the pioneers of heavy metal/hard rock in Sri Lanka. The ensemble stands proudly as one of the most respected creative forces in the region and a phenomenal live powerhouse, earning them a reputation as one of the most sought after bands hailing from Asia. The quintet celebrates their 15-year anniversary this year, with plans to commemorate the mammoth occasion by releasing their highly-anticipated fourth album mid-2015. Stigmata have thus far released three critically-acclaimed albums: 2003’s Hollow Dreams, 2006’s Silent Chaos Serpentine and the 2010 opus Psalms of Conscious Martyrdom that have all received accolades globally and have the distinction of being handpicked on lists citing the Top Albums of the Year. The power behind their music, their unrelenting passion, unique sound and style has helped the group transcend into a unique fixture in Asia’s musical landscape. The band is working hard on their fourth album, having written 12 new songs at the moment, and are toying with the notion of keeping the creative process open so that more music can be composed. The group may very well be the first band in Asia to release a Double Album. Stigmata also have a staggering presence online with a legion of fans on Facebook, www.youtube.com, Myspace and Reverbnation growing exponentially every day. Silent Chaos Serpentine has been reviewed by USA’s www.tmetal.com and Australia’s leading heavy metal site www.themetalforge.com, where the band remained over two years on a CD reviews poll and peaked at No. 9 on the site’s Top 50 Reviews of All Time. |
