Promoting electronic music

Between 18-21 May, the Goethe-Institute and the Alliance Francaise de Kotte are setting up a common program to promote the development of electronic music production in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka’s music scene has shown a growing interest in electronic music and DJ-ing. Musicians, event organizers, radio stations and labels try to connect to this sector of global youth culture and to set up local capacities for music production, event management and marketing.

On 18 and 19 April, workshops will take place at the DJ Academy of Colombo, 24, Averihena Road, Polhengoda, Colombo 5, with Sri Lankan, German and French electronic music artists who will cover the artistic exchange and the transfer of knowledge, especially on computer based composing and technical skills.

On 20 April, from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, the Goethe Institute, at Gregory’s Road, 39, Colombo 7, will host a symposium involving the four German and French artists with the representatives of the current structures of the Sri Lankan labels and opened to all the participants interested in the production of electronic music in Sri Lanka. This symposium will be inaugurated by Ambassadors of France and Germany.

On 21 May  at Silk Club, 41 1:2 Maitland Crescent, Colombo 7, a common performance of Sri-Lankan, French and German music acts will be the visible outcome of the whole program. The format of a DJ-night will target a mostly younger audience of electronic music lovers.

Tickets will be sold for Rs 500/= at Alliance Française de Kotte, 139 Jawatte Road, and at Goethe Institute, 39 Gregory’s Road, and at Rs 1000/= at the door.
