Sri Lanka’s top fashion retail brand ODEL has joined hands with US based middleware technology company WSO2, to be the first in the country to introduce a roving mobile Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal that offers speedier processing of card-based payments, as part of its focus on providing clientele with the best shopping experience,
Launched at ODEL’s flagship store at Alexandra Place, Colombo the mobile POS supplements the 26 fixed cashiers’ terminals at the ‘Mansion of Style’ and encompasses cutting-edge WSO2 middleware solutions that enhance a customer’s shopping experience by removing the frustration of long lines on busy days.
“The growth of the use of credit and debit cards in Sri Lanka makes mobile POS devices for card-based transactions an important value addition. We are delighted to have teamed up with WSO2 and taken this step,” said ODEL’s Founder & CEO, Otara Gunewardene.
Built around WSO2’s award-winning Carbon platform, the mobile POS system includes the WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus and WSO2 Data Services Server products and allow ODEL sales executives equipped with simple Apple iPod devices to process credit or debit card payments over a secured wireless system from anywhere in the store. The system issues credit card receipts as well as itemised ODEL bills similar to those generated at the regular payment counters. For added customer convenience, receipts can also be emailed allowing easy access when required.
“We are pleased to have had the opportunity to work with ODEL and demonstrate how organisations can use our middleware platform to combine the flexibility to adapt and innovate, while meeting the rigorous business demands an organisation faces,” said WSO2 Chairman, Founder & CEO, Dr Sanjiva Weerawarana.
