The Emperor’s Wok of Hilton Colombo lights their colourful lanterns once again to celebrate the traditional Chinese festival known as the Mooncake Festival. The mooncakes will be available at Emperor’s Wok from 1 September to 15 September to celebrate the mid-autumn season. Mooncakes for take-away will be available at Fine Things.

Mid Autumn Festival (also known as Mooncake Festival or Chinese Lantern Festival) dates back over 3,000 years to moon worship in China’s Shang Dynasty. It was first called Zhongqiu Jie (literally “Mid – Autumn Festival”) in the Zhou Dynasty. The traditional food of this festival is the mooncake, of which there are many different varieties across different countries. The Emperors Wok is ready with a range of flavors that will tantalize your taste-buds on this occasion.

Mooncakes are regarded as an indispensable delicacy on this occasion. Mooncakes are small pastries filled with sweet and savory paste. The traditional mooncakes are filled with sweet paste filling, red bean or lotus seed. The Chinese Chef of Hilton Colombo has designed a variety of special mooncakes to cater to the fickle consumer’s taste- buds.

The baked white lotus paste with a single yolk, baked red bean paste with almond flakes, traditional –style baked with five nuts and baked green tea paste with custard are some of the varieties that are available in the restaurant.

The marketing and communications manager Gigi De Silva said, “Our Chinese community is an ardent fan of the Emperor’s Wok. They will now be able to experience the Mooncake Festival that is so famous in China, right here at the Hilton Colombo”.
