Colombo School of Arts (CSA) wishes to announce the recommencement of its inspiring CSA Good Start Series that was launched last year. This is a series of free lectures, presentations and discussions held for the benefit of teenagers and parents. These thought-provoking and inspirational one-hour sessions are held at the Colombo School of Arts Auditorium at No. 46, Jawatte Road Colombo 5. Malinda Seneviratne will share his thoughts on ‘The Power of Selfies’ on Wednesday, 25 February from 4:15-5:30 p.m. Seneviratne was educated in Sri Lanka (University of Peradeniya) and the USA (Carlton College, Harvard University, University of Southern California and Cornell University). He is a Sri Lankan nationalist activist, writer, poet, journalist, political commentator and chess enthusiast. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of ‘The Nation’. He is the winner of the Gratiaen Prize 2013 and has published six books on poetry. The CSA Good Start Series, launched last year, hosted a number of interesting speakers such as Udan Fernando, Mohamed Adamaly, Fahad Al Hatim and Nisreen Amiruddeen, who have discussed their views on subjects that interest and inspire teenagers. The Principal of Colombo School of Arts Shaleeka Jayalath stated that by hosting sessions like the CSA Good Start Series, young children get the opportunity to discover new ideas beyond the curriculum. She says: “We invite teenage students to call and reserve a seat early. Malinda Seneviratne will spend an hour sharing his thoughts on the responsible use of ‘selfies’ from a point of view of a renowned journalist and media personality. We must admit that this is the age of expressing oneself through ‘selfies,’ so it is a powerful medium of communication and every teenager needs to hear how to use it sensibly.” CSA, an international school at Jawatte Road, is affiliated to the Imperial Institute of Higher Education (IIHE) – Sri Lanka’s only institute that is directly associated with the prestigious University of Wales (UK) offering BSc and MBA degree programs. CSA offers a comprehensive teaching methodology to students preparing for their Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) O-Level, AS-Level and A-Level programs. Recently, the school announced that it is offering Cambridge International AS- and A-Level Travel and Tourism as part of its curriculum. CSA is one of the few international schools to do so. What’s more, with the flexible course hours and variety of subject options at CSA, students sitting for their local O- and A- Levels have the option of studying for their London exams at the same time. By offering FREE programs like the CSA Good Start Series that are well-coordinated with the school’s mission – to offer a holistic approach to education, CSA will empower and inspire students who are keen to learn. To reserve a free seat, all parents and teenagers who are interested are requested to call the School Office on 0114383996.
