The Zonta Club II of Colombo joined hands with the AIDS Foundation of Lanka and the International Labour Organization, Colombo to create awareness on HIV and AIDS through ‘edutainment’ – using drama and puppetry, a powerful communication tool, to reach the masses earlier this week
The cultural icon was brought to life through WayangGoleks (3D wooden rod puppets from Indonesia) with new ‘golayas’ (students).
Mahadanamuthta and his technologically advanced golayas of the 21st century conveyed messages on HIV prevention, stigma and discrimination and educated audiences about the importance of “knowing your status”.This entertaining event was held on 23 November at the Sri Lanka Medical Association Auditorium and was followed by several speeches from leading doctors in the country who educated the audience present on HIV and AIDS.
