As part of its process of expansion and provision of therapeutic activities, the Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation (LAF) is pleased to announce that a new creative therapy group is to be launched on 1 of February, at the Activities Centre located in Maradana.
The group, which will be facilitated by a dedicated therapist Seema Omar, is opened to all current LAF Activities Centre’s users, and will remain so to every new person joining the service over the next few months.
The value of creative art, drama, music and writing in promoting and sustaining both physical and mental well being is recognised by most who have experienced it.
Creative therapy can be a powerful means of expression, a vehicle to release tension and anxiety, and an important form of relaxation, particularly to those afflicted by ill health.
This will be a fun, enjoyable, relaxing and creative group – we are not looking for a new Picasso, but instead for an opportunity for those experiencing a decline in their cognitive abilities to have the time and space to give wings to their creativity, express their emotions, and socialise with others in a free, non-judgmental and therapeutic environment.
The Fou-ndation will provide the paper, paints and crayons. We all look forward to starting this exciting new challenge, and to hearing from others and their loved ones wishing to join. Do contact the Centre on 2667080 for more details.
