Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo’s monthly children’s programme took on an environmentally friendly theme this month following World Environmental Day. Children learned to make puppets out of recyclable material with the guidance of Sulochana Dissanayake who also taught them to create a story for their puppets to act out, complete with sound effects and actions!
With it being the ninth programme conducted by the hotel, the Kiddies’ Camp crew and the little campers have grown close. In a touching gesture three year old Riyana, a regular at Kiddies’ Camp, presented the crew with a bouquet of flowers and a giant card, made by her congratulating the hotel on its Best Five Star City Hotel status awarded at the recent Sri Lanka Tourism Awards. Even more touching was her eloquent speech that accompanied the card. Detail oriented Riyana had insisted her mum make her a special outfit with the words ‘Eco Camp’ painted across her apron and head band!
Young Shevon Pillai, crowned Avurudu Kumaraya during the April Kiddies’ Camp, made an environmental statement of his own. He wore a hand painted T shirt he had made with his mother about the poisonous fumes emitted by badly maintained vehicles. The emissions are so harmful to his health that he has been ordered by doctors to protect himself with a mask while travelling. We hope his advice is heeded and urge all vehicle owners to take responsible action.
