A camp entitled ‘Heta Dilisena Tharu’ organised by the Colombo YMCA and Friends group was conducted recently at the Colombo YMCA gymnasium. Approximately 175 children attended mostly from Anuradhapura, Dehiwala and also those representing the Colombo YMCA. The program featured music, dancing and lectures as well. The music was in the capable hands of veteran musician Rukshan Perera (whose father was a pillar of the National YMCA) and Ronnie Leitch (popularly known as ‘Thathaya’) and the children joined in the singing and dancing too. The Chief Guest was Upeksha (Paba) Swarnamali MP and the President of the Colombo YMCA, Lal Withanage delivered the welcome address. Since ‘child abuse’ is a much spoken about topic nowadays, Preethika Sakalasooriya, an officer from the Child Welfare and Probation Department addressed the children regarding it.
