By Cheranka Mendis Kiru Thavayogan and her ‘Yumi Cake’ brand has been around for the past few years, and has amassed a large number of loyal customers who will tell you how deliciously crunchy her Ferrero Rocher chocolate cake is or how insane her eggless chocolate cake with peanut butter is. For all chocoholics, Yumi Cake offers a variety of yummies that are sure to leave you in a happy coma of delightfully rich-chocolaty haze you wouldn’t want to wake up from. But for those of us whose food makes a beeline to the waist area the moment it enters our mouth, such deviously good things aren’t necessarily part of ‘the best in life’. With the season for rich food now at bay, Kiru offers a range of goodies that are a welcoming change, catering to both those who can eat whatever they want (and not count calories) as well as for those who like to eat healthy, under a new ‘Guilt Free’ brand. Over and above the dishes shown here, she has Chocolate Cherry Berry Fruit Cake (Christmas cake with chocolate, Cherry and Almond cake, as well as a range of desserts from Glossy Christmas Trifle, Amaretto Tiramisu and Red Velvet Trifle. She will also be making stuffed turkey with roasted vegetables and savoury éclairs with salmon mousse and cheese and herb filling. While she needs a minimum 24 hours of notice (or two-day notice for large orders), she is also stationed at Good Market every Thursday at Diyatha Uyana and now at Araliya Gardens on Sundays. She can be contacted on 0777 563627 or on https://www.facebook.com/yumicake.net. Pix by Upul Abayasekara
