The varied restaurants available at the Galle Face Hotel cater to varied palettes, food preferences and requirements. The hotel’s fine dining restaurant and wine cellar set inside, aptly named ‘1864’, is open daily for lunch and dinner. Serving Western cuisine with an exotic touch, the 1864 holds a grand character with panelled walls and luxurious drapes. Welcoming tourists, business gatherings and local food lovers alike, its business lunch is available from 12.30 p.m. – 2.30 p.m. on weekdays, offering different set menus for each day, inclusive of a main course and a buffet of soups, salads and desserts. The much loved dinner menu is available from 7.30 p.m. – 10.30 p.m., offering a delightful variation of food for its guests.
Appetizers include mouth-watering Tasmanian smoked salmon, foie gras, scallops, mussels, lobsters and oysters. Main courses on Monday and Tuesday include charred Australian beef, Cajun seasoned crumbed fried seer and crispy fillet of barra mundi served with daily potatoes and fresh vegetables. On Wednesdays, it’s New Zealand lamb chops and on Thursdays, one can delight in seared crispy salmon with honey mustard. Friday’s menu includes a grilled seafood platter served with garlic and lemon sauce. Main courses are followed by soups and desserts. A special dish is available for vegetarians on each day.
