Nayana Karunaratne honoured at OMC Hair World 2010
Sri Lanka’s renowned beautician and hairdresser, Nayana Karunaratne was honoured with the Motivation Award at OMC Hair World 2010 in Paris, the world hairdressing championship organised by Organisation Mondiale Coiffure (OMC).
She received this award from Salvatore Fodera, President of OMC World in recognition of her dedicated service to the hairdressing industry.
Nayana, Board Member and President of OMC Asia Zone, has made a remarkable contribution towards the development of the hair industry, through continuous education and training programmes in the world, especially Asia. Fodera, when presenting the award said that she was a motivating and inspiring influence to him and the other Board members, with her continues work to improve the standard and the status of the industry.
The OMC Hair World 2010 was held on November 6, 7 and 8 in Paris, France. A delegation of five officials and seven competitors representing the Sri Lanka Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians (SLAHAB) participated at this prestigious event. This event, which is held once in two years, is the best-known international event of the hair and beauty industry that showcases the talents and skills of the best of the industry from around the world had 65000 visitors attending the competition and the exhibitions. Sixty countries competed in the championships with 2000 competitors.
The Sri Lankan delegation was led by Nayana, was joined by OMC international judge Johann Peiris, OMC trainers Ramzi Rahaman and Kanjana Godigamuwa, President of the SLAHAB Rayaka Jayasuriya and contestants Prabath Saranga, Mayuri Thilakawardana, Jeewa Binduhewa, Shani Fernando, Maheesha Lakshine, Shakeer Mirza and Ishan Sudirikku.
“Though we did not win any awards, the works of our competitors were on par with the international standards. We are not very far from winning medals at Hair World,” said president Rayaka. SLAHAB has taken many efforts to ensure the participation of Sri Lankan hairdressers and beauticians at such prestigious events, which is a great boost to the local industry.
