What was once a drab site in ‘Kurundu Watta’ is today an impressive and inspiring park.
It was then Torrington Square – named after Lord Torrington, British Governor (1847-50) who had a torrid time during his tenure. The 1848 rebellion was the worst of the controversies he faced when the leaders who were caught were shot.
