Fly for a Cause

The Rotaract Club of Colombo held “Fly for a Cause” on Mt. Lavinia beach on Sunday 22 May 2011.

The Rotaract Club of Colombo – the pioneer Rotaract Club in Sri Lanka is synonymous with spearheading numerous charitable projects to benefit the local community.

The club engages in four avenues of service – namely Community Service, International Understanding, Professional Development, and Club Service. The Rotaract movement is a registered non-profit generating social service organization under Rotary International, and falls under the guardianship of the Rotary Club of Colombo.

Fly for a cause is an event organized by the Rotaract Club of Colombo in order to spread awareness about the diseases and social issues that our communities tend to forget about. Over 140 people joined the cause by flying kites of a cause and colour of their choice. Bringing these kites of different colours together helped remind us and others what these problems are and what we as a society should be doing to overcome them.

The event helped to generate awareness and to inform our community about these topical matters. We hope to also enlighten our community about Rotaract and the work that we undertake. Information about breast cancer, autism, child labour and the importance of racial tolerance were amongst the few important topics generated at the event. The Rotaract Club of Colombo concentrated on promoting awareness of these topics, with regards to its effects in Sri Lanka.

BLUE- Autism

PINK- Breast Cancer

WHITE-Child Abuse, Poverty, Free Speech

YELLOW-Soldiers, Missing Children, Suicide Prevention

ORANGE- Cultural Diversity, Racial Tolerance

BLACK AND WHITE- Racism
