Park Street Mews, the city’s most iconic street for food, retail and fashion, was lit up in grandeur and style on Thursday (1 December) to celebrate the start of the festive season. Frederick-James Koch, the Australian born Sri Lankan actor and entertainer who has been featured in films alongside Hollywood’s top talent, kicked off the celebrations with the lighting of the Mews’ traditional Christmas tree, which was decorated in dazzling and vibrant festive baubles of bronze, gold and deep red. The light-up was held for the second consecutive year and was attended by patrons of the Mews and its many restaurants, business leaders, dignitaries, diplomats and members of the media.
Following the lighting of the Christmas tree, the entire cobbled street was lit-up, revealing spectacular outdoor décor comprising intricate glass chandelier orbs, elegant ornaments adorned with glitter and sparkles, twinkling fairy lights and dainty lanterns, all connected with rich dull gold tinsel.
Commenting on this year’s light-up, Park Street Mews Developer Tasneem Moosajee stated: “We are delighted to continue our time-honoured tradition of lighting up Park Street Mews for the holiday season. I’d like to thank everyone who made this event a success and take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt best wishes to our patrons and guests this Christmas and New Year.”
The evening of entertainment and festivities continued with performances by local artist Tanuja Perera, whose soulful renditions of classical carols and holiday songs set the mood for the evening. Those present were also treated to a surprise visit by Santa Claus who injected a fresh burst of festive cheer and merriment to the evening, by jovially handing over an array of gifts to randomly selected guests.
All of the outlets, bars and restaurants at the Mews came together to celebrate the start of the holiday season, offering guests a range of culinary treats, drinks and giveaways. Throughout the holiday season, all of the venues at the Mews – including Café Français by Pourcel, the Mews Restaurant, Park Street Trattoria, Kuuraku, Spa Ceylon, Curve Bar and the Boutique by Sonali Dharmawardena – will be offering a variety of promotions, offers and activities to make Park Street Mews “the place to be” throughout the entire holiday season.
