‘Beyond Perception,’ a conceptual photography exhibition by Chinthaka Thenuwara and Poornima Jayasinghe Thenuwara, does not exist only to entertain, but also to challenge one to think, to provoke, even to alarm, in a constant search for truth.
Chinthaka and Poornima are two contemporary multi-talented and diverse artists who favour a non-traditional approach to art. They are award winning professional photographers and have been recognised both locally and internationally for their innovative and creative photography. They are also active members of The Collective of Contemporary Artists (CoCA).
The young couple have a liberal philosophy, which provides them with motivation and courage to pursue their uphill task of challenging photography that evolves constantly and break boundaries and creates thought provoking conceptual photographs. Chinthaka and Poornima are not just photographers they are professional artists and designers. They combine these unique talents with photography and reveal their personal signature in every photograph.
The event will feature how photography can tie with technology by using DSLR cameras, different printing surfaces, printing techniques, projections and display methods and break barriers in photography within local and international community. This event creates a solid foundation how photography can tie with other forms of visual art.
The exhibition is schedule for 5 and 6 January 2013. The event will take place at the Park Street Mews, No. 50/1, Park Street, Colombo 2 and will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the public, entrance free. ‘Beyond Perception’ is an exclusive and unique experience not only for photographers but for all art lovers. The independent quality of the event will inspire a unique form of photography within the community. The exhibition is a mix of photography and community, quite unusual in our region.
It is expected that photography enthusiasts, artists and designers who no longer experiment due to the lack of ideas, knowledge and recourses will take up photography for the next level, inspired by the event. Others who have been thinking of taking up photography will most likely make that step.
Throughout the event the artists will provide information for visitors relevant to the genre of photography and servicers and visitors will have the privilege to experience and learn about new technology and products related to photography with hands-on experience sponsored by Epson Debug Ltd. Interactive talks by photographers, artists and art lovers related to conceptual photography and technologies will be conducted at the exhibition.
The exhibition will challenge the current perception of photography and is an exciting opportunity to embrace and align with a novel and unique event that is not to be missed.
