By Sarah Hannan The National Library Colombo last Monday witnessed the launch of Ashok Ferrey’s fifth book, ‘The Professional,’ attended by dignitaries of diplomatic missions, authors and friends. In his welcome address, Ferrey stated that in every book his pure mathematician has resurfaced: “I am obsessed with time. Time is commonly considered as the fourth dimension. But being a mathematician I have used two timelines in ‘The Professional’; of a young boy living in London during the 1980s and of an older man who lives in Colombo during 2013.” The eras seem to be set far apart, however Ferrey has morphed the timelines to run in parallel and distorted the time factor or in his own words, “Placed the scenes in the mind of God.” To add life to the readings Savithri Rodrigo and Francesca Mudannayake joined Ferrey in a role-play where they enacted three interesting sections from ‘The Professional’. Wrapping up the reading sessions, Ferrey presented two books to renowned playwright, photographer and author Seneka Abeyratne and author Sarojini Sinnathamby. Pix by Upul Abayasekara
