After a long break, Yashan is back with an international musical collaboration. The song is composed and directed by Lady Monarkey, a producer from Canada who runs her own record label called MusiqMatch records. Yashan is the lyricist and the rap artist of the song and Kenya features with the vocals for the Sinhala chorus of the song. The audio and music video of the song will be released on all digital platforms on Saturday 7 March. Following are excerpts of an interview on the new song:
Q: ‘Love Is In The Air’ – How would you explain the title of the song?
A: Well this song is all about love. In fact it’s about the power of love which can heal broken hearts, which can bring smiles to people, which can make this world a better place. Because ultimately love is the best religion in this whole world. Even God says that ‘God is love’ and if anyone is not showing love to people it means he doesn’t know God. So if we love and worship God, we need to show love to people, help and care with compassion and that’s the main message I’m trying to deliver in this song. It also speaks about the unity, peace and beauty of Sri Lanka.
Q: What message you are trying to give to Sri Lanka?
A: It relates to the word ‘love’. We need to love our motherland. Love by showing respect, loving people without being racist, and protect the environment for a better future. If we do good it will always come back to protect and save us.
Q: What made you do this kind of a song?
A: It’s a different reason than you can ever imagine. When I was praying in 2017, God spoke to me clearly and he wanted me to do a peace song and he promised me that he would guide and provide me with everything that I needed for it. He wanted to use me to pass a message through my music and here I am today with a meaningful song for you.
Q: What was like to work with a music director from Canada?
A: It was very easy. She is the best composer I have ever worked with. Even though we represent two different countries and two different styles, she managed to figure out my musical strength so well and understand my ideas. So it wasn’t hard, but it was always cool, fun and exciting to work with her.
Q: Any unforgettable experiences while filming the ‘Love Is In The Air’ music video?
A: We filmed it in five different locations for about five days. In Negombo, Moratuwa, Bambalapitiya, Colombo Fort and Panadura. We wanted to film a scene with train, so my wife and my video production crew and I were travelling towards Colombo Fort via Marine Drive, I suddenly asked them to stop at Bambalapitiya and I briefed them my concept. We fixed our tools and wow, about four trains passed by on and off within 15 minutes and we managed to film the required scene perfectly.
Q: Who are the team with you on this project?
A: Shout out to my wife Kenya; this is her debut single and she did amazingly well. The music video was filmed by Digital Eye Studios, produced by Gamini Chamara, directed by me and edited by Upul Chandana. Outfits were done by Namal Balachandra. Make up by Ruchira Liyanagamage, hair by Dhanushka from Salon Liyo, and shoes by Helanka.
Q: Apart from music, what do you do?
A: I travel a lot. I visit people in difficult areas in the country and I go to orphanages and spend a lot of time with them. I share what I have with love and that’s what I like to do the most.In my spare time I do weddings; I provide and handle almost every aspect related to a wedding starting from the hotel booking to photography and videography, DJ and music, floral arrangements, outfits, invitation cards, cakes, etc. The name of my company is ‘My Wedding Planners’.
Q: You host a TV show as well. Can you tell us about it?
A: Yes, I host Music Factory. It goes live every Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. on Swarnawahini.
Q: How can anyone reach you?
A: www.facebook.com/darealyashan is my official Facebook fanpage. You can also follow me on instagram @yashan_insta.
