Philatelic Bureau greeting card
‘Christmas marks an important moment for humanity, and the celebrations surrounding the Christmas Day commemorate the great sacrifice made by Jesus Christ for humanity.
Jesus was born in a barn, surrounded by farm animals and shepherds, because there was no room at the inn and he represents forgiveness, generosity, compassion and kindness.
Thus the Philatelic Bureau introduced this year’s Christmas stamps.
Two stamps have been released – one in the denomination of Rs. 15 for use within Sri Lanka and the other – Rs. 45 for foreign mail. In addition to the two stamps, a First Day Cover, a Miniature Sheet and a Greeting Card have also been issued.
The Postal Bureau had released stamps on 18 occasions this year with more than one stamp being issued a few times.
Two stamps were released paying tribute to two distinguished Sri Lankans – world-renowned scientist Professor Cyril Ponnamperuma and famous painter whose name is synonymous with Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara paintings Soliyas Mendis.
