Esquire: The next James Bond movie—presumably Daniel Craig's final as 007—has had its fair share of drama so far, what with on-set injuries and more. But, headlines and rumours aside, Bond 25, which finally got an official title and release date, is looking pretty promising.
With Phoebe Waller-Bridge on board to punch up the script and Cary Joji Fukunanga directing and Christoph Waltz's big return to the franchise—Bond 25 is promising to be pretty good. Here's everything we know so far:
What’s the name of the movie?
After rumours suggested that Daniel Craig's final 007 film would be titled ‘Shatterhand’—named after the alias of Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld from Ian Fleming’s 1964 novel ‘You Only Live Twice’—Eon announced the real title in August of 2019.
Bond 25 will be called ‘No Time to Die,’ which is either a pretty classic name for a Bond movie, or was created using a random Bond title generator, depending on how you look at it.
Is the title saying that there is no good time to die? Is it saying that Bond is so busy that he has no time to die?
Who knows? But, this real title does put a damper on some of those Blofeld rumors.
Who’s directing Bond 25?
Cary Joji Fukunaga, known for directing Season One of ‘True Detective’.
What are the production problems?
After abruptly losing its director, Danny Boyle, rumours spread about tension and disagreements among producers, writers, and the director about the script and casting. When Boyle was replaced with Cary Joji Fukunaga, producers announced the film would miss its originally scheduled release date of 9 November. At that time, Bond 25 was scheduled begin shooting in March 2019 for a worldwide release date of 14 February 2020.
Who’s in the cast?
Well, Daniel Craig is playing Bond. Ben Whishaw is returning as Q, according to the Bond fan site, MI6. Rami Malek is reportedly being considered as the villain. Lupita Nyong’o was rumoured to be in the running as the next Bond girl, but has reportedly backed out of the casting process. Christoph Waltz was reportedly not set to return while Danny Boyle was directing but Joji Fukunaga has apparently said he hasn't ruled out Waltz's return.
Where is filming taking place?
According to Variety, the Italian town of Matera, home to just 60,000 people, is where the prolonged action sequence to start Bond 25 will shoot. Filming is expected to begin there in July, Variety reported.
Filming is also going to take place in a forest outside Oslo, Norway, according to the Agence France-Presse news agency, which captured photos of workers building a house on the location.
When does Bond 25 come out?
After being pushed back due to injuries, ‘No Time to Die’ will officially be out on 8 April 2020 in the US and 3 April in the UK.
