A timeless play located in the middle of nowhere, filled with character names that would resonate with our Sri Lankan historical stories, would be telling you a story about you, your country, your economy and the universal truths of life.
A theatre experience like never before; Akuna (A Fable); a musical play by Kalaa Keerthi Jerome Lakshman de Silva, is to take the theatre by storm this March from 11 to 13.
Jerome De Silva is no stranger to the English theatre audiences, and surely after the production of Akuna, so he would be to the Sinhala theatre fans as well.
Akuna is in fact a trilingual play where English, Sinhala and Tamil languages are incorporated simultaneously. The play is brought to life by The Workshop Players in collaboration with The Lionel Wendt. The massive cast includes over 60 members who have tirelessly worked through these pandemic times to bring this play to life. The script of the play is written by Jerome De Silva himself in coordination with Mahesh Wickremasinghe. Music direction is done by Amila Wijeratne and Prabodha Buddhipriya, while choreography of the play has been done by Jerome De Silva along with the assistance of Indika Lakmal.
Akuna came to life as a joint effort of The Workshop Players’ brainstorming, reimagining and reinterpreting current and historical events with a twist of their own. This is an open invitation to all of you, to witness this original masterpiece.
The box plan would be made available at the Lionel Wendt premises on 1 March. The schedule for the show would be as; 11 Friday 7 p.m., 12 Saturday 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.; 13 Sunday 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Book your tickets at the earliest chance you get in order to avoid disappointment.
