An exhibition titled ‘Figures’ by Sameera Kalupahana is being held from 7 February to 6 March at Paradise Road Galleries. Sameera Kalupahana was born in 1970 in Galle, Sri Lanka. A skilled water colourist, Kalupahana has been accredited as the only Sri Lankan artist since Justin Pieris Deriniyagala to be as skilled a draftsman. While his practice focuses on the study of the nude female form, rural scenes and landscapes, in this exhibition the artist presents a series of small oil paintings alongside works on paper. The artist’s sensitivity to both medium and composition combine with a practice clearly inspired by his strongly rooted environment in the south of the island. Kalupahana’s work has been exhibited in both Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom – Pix by Shehan Gunasekara
