A day filled with homegrown art, creativity and original music

Colombo Design Market is back this Sunday, 22 July, from 10 a.m. to 8 p..m at Women’s International Club to bring you the platform that has been nurturing homegrown creativity and supporting Sri Lanka’s emerging independent designers and brands since 2014.

The well-known CDM supports a community of creatives to develop Sri Lanka’s identity through creativity and art. Through their flagship market and smaller events, CDM brings together creative startups, budding musicians, filmmakers and photographers, and host talks, workshops and interactive installations to provide a refreshing experience of design and creativity in Sri Lanka.

As Savanthi Weerakone, founder of creative brand Shoelace Studio, shares: “Over the years the market has continued to support us. CDM is a curated market of creatives with unique ideas and products and the team has continuously improved the vendor experience from location space to partnering with different initiatives which in turn has increased our customer reach.”

The upcoming market creates an inviting environment for friends and family alike to engage with the creative side of Colombo, while enjoying original music by local talent and munching on some delicious homemade food by a range of vendors. You can shop for bold fashion designers, home decor, edgy fashion accessories, custom-made stationery and a selection of delicious homemade food vendors.

Expect to find emerging design brands such as House of Lonali, Parkville, AARYAA, Kantala and Monai while you nibble on Bellisima’s famed Choco Biscuit Pudding, Isle of Gelato, and get a taste of the new players in town, Bowl’d.

In collaboration with Ladies Wine and Design Colombo ‘The Creative Process’ segment at 4pm will host talks by several recognised creatives on their process and what goes on behind the scenes. Feast your eyes on the stunning photography exhibit of Sri Lanka’s traditional martial arts Angampora by Oceans and Continents.

Enjoy some ‘Free Poetry’ being read out in cosy corners around the lawn – simply find one of the poets and choose from a menu of poems on offer! Bring your kids out to the Play Zone hosted by Jittabugs where they will find play d-oh, giant twister mats, parachutes and pompoms among other games, arts and crafts to activate little minds and bodies.
