Colombo city is changing rapidly. New skyscrapers are becoming a common sight and these construction sites carry gigantic billboards that exhibit photographs of the future. There are many billboards around Galle Face, with slogans of ‘Colombo Financial City boosts the economy’ announcing the imminent economic development, but Colombo still remains a place with huge income disparity with no shortage of beggars and poor people.. Even though attempts are being made to transform Colombo into a megalopolis, old landmarks such as the statue of former Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranayake will stand against this change, complete with decaying garland. Photojournalist Shehan Gunasekara attempts to capture the socio-economic and political changes of our time into ‘photographic moments,’ visiting different locations and incidents of the ongoing construction around Colombo and the Port City to show glimpses of life amongst the change
