Harpo’s Pizza, now in its sixth year of operation, has been actively promoting its product through social media, mainly on facebook (FB) which has averaged a following of over 10,000 fans a year and in a short span has hit a 50,000 fan base.
FB has been an important component of its marketing and promotions campaign which has included special competitions focused for the fans with special deals, and the interaction has been tremendous.
Snap it and win it the Red T-shirt competition, was one of the very first photographic competitions via FB.
Thereafter, the company introduced the ‘Messy table’ competition for organisations based in Colombo with, fans voting for their co-workers messy table picture on the events page. In December 2012, a unique competition to celebrate the festive period in the offices sent pictures of the office spaces or desks decorated for Christmas with recycled materials.
The campaign ‘share the love’ gained popularity and was the talk of the town amongst the fans and non-fans too. A 19’ pizza box which had a poster saying ‘share the love’ was placed randomly amongst people, taxisand pets were photographed to create a buzz.
For 2013, fans had to design a Valentine’s Day card with recycled material. This year more events will be introduced to create awareness about the importance of recycling through our social media channels.
Harpo’s Pizza MD and the brain behind the brand Harpo Gooneratne said: “We are so happy to have achieved 50,000 fans in such a short time. The success of our FB page is based on feeding fresh and interesting content on a regular basis and creating innovative ideas to engage existing fans as well as attract new fans.
“We have managed to reach our facebook targets successfully and wish to thank all our fans who have over the years given their ‘thumbs up’ and supported us.”
Harpo’s restaurant and cafes always promoted new ideas, sharing and exchanging information, in virtual communities and networks which has created a highly interactive platform for the group.
