The longest ongoing annual craft competition and exhibition, the ‘All Island Patchwork & Needlecraft Competition,’ organized by Daisy Vittachi, is scheduled to be held on 26 and 27 November 2011 at the Jayewardena Centre, Colombo 7.
The inaugural event, 19 years ago, provided a much-needed platform for many talented women from all over the Island to showcase their individual creative skills. By displaying their products at this event numerous women were able to secure regular local and foreign orders thereby creating an avenue for self-employment.
Over the years, the venue also became a common meeting ground for Crafters to meet and discuss new techniques, exchange designs and patterns or get new ideas to arouse their creative minds.
On display this year will be many new designs on 3D cross-stitch, 3D patchwork and stained-glass-needlepoint in addition to handmade evening bags and handbags.
The latest in patchwork, ‘Shadow Illusions,’ and Brazilian embroidery will also be on view.
Daisy will be conducting demonstrations on a new brand of sewing machine made especially for quilting and embroidery. So all those interested in finding new and easier ways to quilt and embroider will definitely not want to miss these demonstrations.
There will also be a sale of craft books, bags, quilts and Christmas craft.
