Text and pix by Ruzaik Farook Zahira College Colombo recently organised its Founder’s Day ceremony which was held at the College Gaffoor Hall under the patronage of the College Principal Triizviy Marikkar. The Founders Day Oration was delivered by guest speaker distinguished old boy of Zahira College and Senior Professor of Medicine of the Sir John Kotelawala University Vidyajyothi Professor Rezvi Sheriff who spoke about ‘A Journey through history of Muslims of Sri Lanka to Education Beyond the Digital Era’.
Zahira College was established on 21 August 1892 by late A.M. Wapichche Marikkar with the help of late M.C. Siddi Lebbe, I.L.M. Abdul Azeez and Ahamed Orabi Pasha and is one of the leading educational institutions in the country. Awards were distributed to winners of the Founders Day essay, oratory, poem, short story, art and short film competitions. There was also a performance by the winners.
