Pave your pathway to Monash through UCL

While many Sri Lankans are exploring foreign education opportunities, Australia is one of the most preferred destinations for many to either study or work. All such aspirants can now jump-start their education and career dreams right here and within accessible distance to the place we call home. Entry to prestigious Monash University is now accessible to Sri Lankan youth via the new partnership established between the Monash College and Universal College Lanka (UCL) which is headquartered in Rajagiriya. Since February 2016, UCL has been delivering the Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) program and Diplomas in Business and in Engineering (IT and Engineering streams) which is equivalent to the 1st year of the destination degrees in those streams of study. On completion, students will gain entry into Monash University, one of the world’s top 100 universities and are given the option to choose between the campuses in either Malaysia or Australia. Monash University has achieved an enviable national and international reputation for research and teaching excellence in the short 50 years since it began. Monash is ranked in the top 1% of world universities – 73rd in the world – according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (2015– 2016). The latest achievement of Monash is in the stream of Engineering and Technology where they were ranked the best in Australia and 53rd in the world in November 2015. Further, they are a Triple Crowned Go8 University with Triple International Business School Accreditations and have also been voted the best University in Victoria and second in Australia from which to hire graduates by global recruiters. The annual 2014 Global Employability University Ranking, polled by the French Human Resources consultancy Emerging, and German polling institute Trendence, placed Monash 33rd in the world. Expressing his thoughts Dr. Harsha Alles, one of the Directors, shared: “This partnership between Monash and UCL provides an opportunity to Sri Lankan students to enroll in a course that will not only provide a qualification recognised world-over but will also assist the students to be better prepared to face an interview and seek out the most suited job role within the job market either internationally or at home. “As a Sri Lankan parent, typically, where bonds are to a greater extent different to many other countries, Monash partnership provides an opportunity for parents to be closer to their children for longer yet allow them to experience the exposure and gain a qualification recognised world over in a country where most country-men are seeking to settle in.” Lasantha De Silva, the CEO of UCL, expressed: “In the global knowledgedriven economy, UCL believes that Sri Lanka needs to educate its youth to be highly competent and skilled who can contend with the best and the brightest in the world. Thus inimitable foreign partnerships with prestigious research institutions that have thrived to be the best in the world were agreed to as a part of the solution.” The inquiry based learning methods offered by Monash programmes that are different to the traditional local education system in Sri Lanka, students registering at UCL are expected to acquire a global perspective, as a consequence helping them to become better citizen of the global village who can contribute to the global economy, De Silva added.
