Thanking SLIIT President/ CEOProf. Lalith Gamage for the invitation, Chief Guest John Keells Holdings PLC Deputy Chairman Ajit Gunewardene addressing the graduates commented: “It is indeed a privilege and honour for me to be here today. So here you are, all armed with your degrees ready to go out there and take on the world. What you have done up to now has really been the easy and fun path. You had only one thing to do; pass your exams. Now it is time to go out there into the real world. I can assure you it’s a jungle out there.” Sharing valuable principles and advice with the graduates, Gunewardene elaborated:
“Vision without execution is simply hallucination. Therefore execution with passion is key. A dream to be made into a reality requires hard work. Don’t be hasty, don’t be greedy. Don’t allow intellectual arrogance to creep in. Learn forever as you will never stop learning. People keep talking about being at the right place at the right time; you are in the right place at the right time. Ladies and Gentlemen, go forth and conquer the world, it is all yours.” In 1999, it was realised that the number of IT students graduating from universities were inadequate to make a significant impact in the IT industry in Sri Lanka. It was in this scenario that SLIIT was established with the fervent hope of producing a thousand IT graduates annually. Today SLIIT has produced over 9,000 graduates in the field of IT,
which is an unprecedented achievement. SLIIT has further expanded its horizons by offering degrees in the fields of Business, Engineering, Hospi tal i ty Management, Architecture and Quantity Surveying. Soon SLIIT will have the distinction of being recognised as a PhD and MPhil degree awarding body by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. SLIIT’s long-standing global academic partners and industry partners were among the distinguished guests who attended this grand occasion.
