The inauguration of the KIU degree programmes for 2016 was held recently at KIU auditorium. Over 400 participants including students, parents, lecturers and other well-wishers attended this formal reception of the new students who took the first step towards their journey at KIU on this day. L a k s h m a n Kiriella – Minister of Higher Education and Highways, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne – Minister of Health, N u t r i t i o n a n d Indigenous Medicine and Mohan Lal Grero – State Minister of Higher Education participated as the chief guests for this prestigious event. The guests were received by Dr. Jagath Senevirathne – Managing Director/ CEO of KIU, Prof. Neluka Fernando – Honorary Vice Chancellor of KIU and Dr. Rasika Perera – Head of Department of Examinations. Prof. Fernando delivered the welcome speech.
Saman Rathnapriya – President Government Nursing Officers’ Association, Ravi Kumudesh – President, Sri Lanka Society for Medical Laboratory Science (SLSMLS) and Senator Ogola Foster – National Assembly of Federal Republic of Nigeria were among the other distinguished guests who graced the occasion. Kiriella, Grero and Senaratne addressed the gathering, emphasising the contribution of KIU to the higher education in Sri Lanka. The new students received gift packs including laptops and books. KIU offers the best choices for higher education for school leavers as well as those already employed. New students are enrolled for the following undergraduate degree programmes ; Bachelor of Science Honours in Biomedical Science, Bachelor of Science Honours in Psychology, Bachelor of Management Honours in Human Resource, Bachelor of Management Honours in Marketing, Bachelor of Management Honours in Accounting, Bachelor of Science Honours in Nursing, Bachelor of Science Honours Medical Science in KAATSU, Bachelor of Science Honours in Medical Science in Acupuncture, IT and Acupuncture Diplomas. KIU is a unique institute accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education, and all the degree programmes offered are recognised by the University Grants Commission. The curricula are developed by highly experienced and reputed professors and senior lecturers to serve the best of knowledge to the students. KIU is an institution which gives the students a high standard education, where the students will be recognised locally as well as globally. Standing gracefully touching the sky, KIU is located at Koswatta, Battaramulla, adding beauty to the area. It has a student capacity of over 2,000 and is in the process of expanding it further to give more students the opportunity to have a quality education.
