The British Council will hold its International School Awards 2016 on Friday 30 September, at the Eagles Lakeside Banquet Hall, Attidiya, Dehiwela from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Th e C h i e f Guest for this event will be Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam. ‘ C o n n e c t i n g Classrooms’ is a global education program for schools. It is designed to help young people learn about global themes and become competitive in the 21st century.
It also gives them the skills to work in a worldwide economy. ‘Connecting Classrooms’ offers school partnerships and accreditation along with professional development training for teachers and an opportunity for them to share best practice with their counterparts around the world. International School Award (ISA) is an accreditation scheme which recognises international project work in schools. To obtain the ISA, a school has to work on a minimum of seven international projects within an academic year. ISA was introduced to Sri Lanka in 2006 and 369 schools have received ISA to date. There are 110 schools working for ISA in 2015- 16.
