AAT Business School, a strategic business unit operating under the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka, with the mission to be the centre of excellence for executive development by broadening the career pathway of AAT students, passed finalists, members and other professionals, is committed towards enhancing competencies and recognition of those seeking individual development. Having identified the need to create ways and means to achieve the above mentioned situation, AAT Business School launched on 16 August at Hotel Galadari its newly structured course – the Diploma in Accounting and Finance,
and the Higher Diploma in Accounting and Finance (HDAF) to provide a sound theoretical basis in Accounting and Finance with requisite skills and attitudes for participants to progress in their careers in the selected fields mainly in the small and medium sized enterprises The Chief Guest on the occasion was University of Sri Jayewardenepura Vice-Chancellor Professor Sampath Amaratunge. The event was full of glitz and glamour with eminent speakers including the Chief Guest and Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC CEO/ Managing Director Kishu Gomes, Hayleys Power and Energy and BPO Managing Director Dr. Arul Sivagananathan, and AGXA Global, AG International Executive Chairman and Colombo Stock Exchange Director Anton Godfrey. The session chairman/ moderator was Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. (Foods) International Director/ CEO Samitha Perera. The panel discussion was on a timely topic ‘Challenging Traditional Wisdom’.
The Chief Guest, University of Sri Jayewardenepura Vice- Chancellor Professor Sampath Amaratunge in his address commented that today’s need is to develop executives to demonstrate a sound understanding of advanced concepts and principles of accounting, finance, management, economics and other related social sciences so that they apply that knowledge in the decision making process and Improve the critical thinking ability, communication, negotiation, analytical and problem solving skills in professional and business contexts, display leadership, ability to work in teams, commitment for learning, and adaptability in the professional environment and ultimately develop positive attitudes and responsibility towards work and society.
Target group
The course is designed for school leavers after advanced level and employees who are already engaged in the fields of Accounting and Finance. Direct entry to Higher Diploma is possible to students who have completed the AAT Final level or for those with similar qualifications. Duration of HDAF is two years with four semesters having 20 modules, and it constitutes a professional qualification and equips students to be more competitive in their respective industries. The followers will acquire sound knowledge and competencies, for strategic application in the fields of Accounting and Finance. Further AAT Business School will arrange bank loan facilities for students who follow this program as a solution to those facing financial constraints. Students will also be able to find suitable employment through the AAT job bank.
