The first Xmas Street on Green Path on a 1 km stretch of road was jointly organised by the Ministry of Tourism and the Retailers Association. Xmas Street was inaugurated on 22 December by the Minister of Tourism, Christian Religious Affairs and Lands John Amaratunga. On Day 2, Deputy Minister of Tourism Dr. Harsha de Silva opened Xmas Street with Singer Sri Lanka CEO Asoka Pieris. Minister of Health and Nutrition Dr. Rajitha Senarathne was the Chief Guest and Dilmah Founder Merril J. Fernando was the Guest of Honour on the closing day on 24 December. Ministers Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Chandrani Bandara and Eran Wickramarathne and MP Kavinda Jayawardane attended the closing session. Dinesh Weerakkody, who chaired the Committee which organised Tourism Fest, Xmas Street and the initiative to light up the city, thanked the public, the private sector and the public sector for their generous support
