President Maithripala Sirisena stated that no matter how advanced a level of development was achieved through modern information technology, the fruits of that development could not be properly utilised if kindness and humanity in society deteriorated.
“Sri Lankan society is not second to any country in the world in terms of kindness, discipline and humanity. We should always be dedicated to protect our proud culture while progressing with modern technology,” he added.
The President made these statements at an event to declare open the INFO 2015 Exhibition, organised by Visakha Vidyalaya in Colombo in collaboration with the ICT branch of the Ministry of Education, at the Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC) in Colombo yesterday.
“We cannot ignore the technological progress in our society,” the President said, adding that there should be a perfect understanding that there are two sides to every issue while adopting new trends in society.
INFO 2015 is a mega ICT exhibition being organised for the second consecutive year.
Ministers Wijeyadasa Rajapa-kshe, Gayantha Karunatileka, Sujeewa Sena-singhe, the principal and staff of Visakha Vidyalaya, parents and other dignitaries were also present at the event.
