Perahera pageantry

The two-day annual Nawam Perahera of the Gangaramaya, Hunupitiya, and Colombo concluded on Thursday. On Wednesday the perahera began after President Mahinda Rajapaksa placed the relic casket on the cushion inside the decorated enclosure on the back of the caparisoned tusker.

Yesterday the ritual was done by UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe whilst Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa was also present, assisted by the Chief Incumbent of the temple, Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara.
