The Norwegian Embassy in Colombo celebrated its National Day on 17 May. To mark the day, Ambassador Thorbjørn Gaustadsæther and Vera Wæhle hosted a reception at the Galle Face Hotel. 17 May was established as a National Day in 1814 as the Constitution of Norway was signed in Eidsvoll, declaring Norway as an independent nation. Welcoming the Guests, the Norwegian Ambassador said: “The relationship between our two countries (Norway and Sri Lanka) has evolved over the years. Actually, our diplomatic relationship with Colombo is celebrating 110 years this year. Sri Lanka has now embraced democracy, international cooperation and an investment friendly policy, which Norway would like to associate itself with and support. A new chapter in our cooperation has commenced. We had the Norwegian Foreign Minister visiting Sri Lanka in January this year. The first political visit in 10 years. There are more Norwegian tourists coming and I am hoping to see more universities and institutions establishing contacts. Our ambitions are enhanced cooperation with Sri Lanka in addressing both national and global challenges, contributing to the growth of the economy in both countries and maintaining the good relationship between the people in the two respective countries.”
