The 2016 Korean Cultural Festival, an open forum for Korean culture and sports, was held at the Musaeus College Auditorium on 23 July. The event was organised by the Korean Embassy, under the patronage of the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Sports and the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC). In recent years Sri Lankans have shown a keen interest in Korea and its culture. They are being influenced by a variety of cultural aspects, especially Korean TV dramas and K-pop, which Sri Lanka’s young generation enjoys. To cultivate this enthusiasm, the embassy has organised the festival, which brings together Korean cultural elements including K-pop and Taekwondo. “This festival helped Sri Lankans better understand Korean culture, thereby further strengthening the close relationship between Korea and Sri Lanka,” a Korean Embassy officer said. The event was sponsored by Samsung Electronics, Korean Air Line and LG Abans – Pix by Shantha Rathnayake
