Sri Lanka’s leading menswear specialist Hameedia, kicked off the New Year by celebrating with their employees “The Hameedia’s Colours Night” – An event showcasing the many diverse talents of their staff and also recognising the outstanding achievers of 2013. The event highlighted the camaraderie and team spirit which is apparent in the day to day activities of the organisation. This annual event organised by the company’s welfare society was held recently, at the Musaeus College Auditorium. The Hameedia’s Welfare Society was set up in 1989 with the intention of enabling the employees with various benefits in times of merry and dismay. The Welfare Society is a strong team which represents team members from all parts of the organisation including all Hameedia outlets, Head Office, manufacturing and wholesale. Speaking of the day’s proceedings Chairman of the Hameedia’s Welfare Society Milad said: “This annual event is where we ask team members to showcase their versatility, be it from putting on a skit to singing a song or doing a dance act. This year again we have bought onto stage many employees who will be showcasing their talent, we had staff performing popular acts such as Cinderella and gagara, entertaining all who attended.” Wikasitha Weerasinghe, an employee of Hameedia added: “Today. I feel very proud to be part of a very talented and amazing group of people. My colleagues at Hameedia did put on an amazing show. I honestly was pleasantly surprised to see them in a different light away from their official capacity, and am sure it created strong camaraderie amongst us as we got to understand and witness this part of their personality.” Weerasinghe further went on to say: “I would also take this opportunity to thank the management of Hameedia for supporting an out of the box initiatives like this. I personally felt the staff recognition awards which was the highlight of the evening, no doubt lifted the spirits of the employees after a hard year’s work to be recognised, rewarded and motivated; allowing us to look forward to a challenging but positive 2014.” Lakshmi de Zoysa a former employee of Hameedia’s who was a special invitee at the event, added: “Hameedia’s has come a long way from when I first started working with them. The office started off in a very small space in Wellawatta over ten years ago, to 1 January 2014, when they celebrated the first Colours Award Night. The evening was most enjoyable in celebrating the accomplishments and talents of all Hameedia’s staff, from individual accomplishments to team achievements. A touching moment was when; Deputy Managing Directors Hussain Sadique was taken by surprise, when he was invited on stage to receive an award of excellence for leadership by his brother, Managing Director Fouzul Hameed, it was very nice to see both brothers express their emotions. “It was a joyful event with never a dull moment till the end when everyone who is a part of Hameedia was invited on stage to take a bow. What a tremendous family that recognises both local and overseas talent. Everyone’s creative talents, skills and resourcefulness were fully drawn out at every stage of the event from planning, organisation, sharing and leadership. Congratulations Hameedia, for a job well done!” added Lakshmi. Hameedia’s Managing Director Fouzul Hameed, commenting on the day’s events said: “I am very proud of the team and of what we have achieved in the year 2013; the effort put in by each staff member is what has allowed us to make it a memorable year. I strongly believe in quality and service, this year I believe we will be tested on both grounds as the consumer is becoming more aware of what they want and my challenge to the team at Hameedia’s is to be a world class brand in the next two years.” Hameedia, established in 1949, has grown to become one of the household and benchmarked menswear brands in Sri Lanka.
