Ananda Zahira Friendship Cricket encounters fostering friendship

The 50 over cricket match between Ananda College and Zahira College for Dr. T.B. Jayah Trophy ended with a 4 wicket win for Ananda College. The match played at Colts Cricket Ground was a friendly encounter aimed at building friendship between two leading Buddhist and Muslim schools in the country. It was played after a lap of 25 years and the organisers of both schools have agreed to play the match annually. Zahira batting first after winning the toss scored 135 runs in 45.3 overs. Ananda chasing the target with ease at one time was 74 for no wickets but lost 5 more wickets to secure the win at 34 overs. Zahira – 135 in 45.3 overs Shehan Weerasinghe 27 M. Cricket World Cup Winning Captain and a distinguished old boy of Ananda College – Arjuna Ranatunga graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Imtiaz Bakeer Markar as the Guest of Honour distributed awards. Also in attendance was SLC Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga.
