Sri Lanka’s leading private sector bank, HNB PLC celebrated the 30th anniversary of its flagship microfinance scheme
Gami Pubuduwa recently, with a ceremony recognising its
drivers of rural economic development, its 150-strong team
of field officers.
Initiated in 1989 as the first-ever microfinance programme launched by a Sri Lankan bank, HNB Gami Pubuduwa has today expanded to cover a substantial proportion of the rural sector and won global recognition for its efforts in providing untapped business segments access to a host of products and services including micro-savings, micro-lending, money transfer services and micro-insurance.
The conference held at HNB Auditorium, HNB Towers recently, with the participation of Central Bank of Sri Lanka Director, Regional Development M.S.K.Dharmawardena, HNB MD/CEO Jonathan Alles, HNB Chief Operating Officer Dilshan Rodrigo and HNB Deputy General Manager, SME and Midmarket Jude Fernando, together with GamiPubuduwafield officers and the senior management of the bank. The day-long conference also featured a number of discussions, awareness program around the importance
microfinance in relation to building opportunities
in the rural economy.
A special session, ‘Finding Yourself in the process of
creating Customer Value’, was also held for the field officers by corporate trainer and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) Practitioner, Manik Senanayake.
