Sri Lanka’s No. 1 herbal soap brand Khomba from Swadeshi, recently donated 1,000 Kohomba (Margosa) plants to the Panagoda army camp. These plants are destined for the Wilpattu National Park, as part of the ‘Swadeshi Khomba Sathkaraya’, a project that will make an important contribution to preserving one of the country’s most renowned natural wonders.

Speaking about the project, a spokesperson of Swadeshi said, “It’s in the national interest for us to protect and preserve Wilpattu, and all the other parks and forests in Sri Lanka.” Located in the Northwest coast lowland dry zone of Sri Lanka, Wilpattu is one of the largest and oldest parks in Sri Lanka. One of the top national parks in the world, it is well-known for its leopard population, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The park has been in the spotlight in recent times where extensive deforestation has taken place and this will destroy our ecosystem.

Spokesperson from the Directorate of Agriculture at the Panagoda Army camp has this to say: “We appreciate this initiative by Swadeshi. Projects like this are invaluable in order to ensure that Wilpattu remains intact, and that future generations will also be able to enjoy its wonders. It’s very important that we save our forests for our future generations and also wild life has to be preserved.”

The team behind ‘Swadeshi Khomba Sathkaraya’ saw the Khomba plant as an excellent choice, since from ancient times the plant has been known as one of nature’s miracle ingredients, delivering herbal goodness and medicinal properties while also purifying the air. The choice is also one that is close to the company’s heart, since one of its flagship brands Khomba Original Herbal soap features margosa (kohomba) oil as its primary ingredient.

“All products manufactured by Swadeshi are 100% vegetarian and cruelty-free, and have never been tested on animals. This stands testament to the company’s forward thinking practices, as well as our desire to help consumers make ethical and eco-friendly choices. The company has always considered the health and environmental impact of its products, and we will continue to focus on this going forward.”

Khomba soap has the distinction of being the consistent leader in the herbal segment since its launch in 1943; and is renowned for its mild, yet deep cleansing properties which enhance natural beauty and provide natural protection.

As a local company Swadeshi continues its nation building and community CSR projects for our Sri Lankan communities. The Swadeshi Khomba brand is dedicated to carrying out sustainability projects which focus on caring for Mother Nature. The current effort is just one of the company’s many community outreach initiatives which also includes the annual sponsorship of the ‘Aloka Poojawa’ at several historical places of worship around the island, under the theme of ‘Swadeshi Khomba Aloka Puja Sathkaraya’. Swadeshi Khomba also donates water tanks for communities all over Sri Lanka and books to schools regarding good values.
