On 20 and 21 September, the 2018/2020 MBA batch of Colombo University and lecturers joined hands in an incredibly noteworthy initiative by planting over 200 trees near the Moragahakanda Tank. The project, which was titled ‘Green Wave’, will be an important part of improving the environment minimising negative impact through the planting, maintenance and preservation of trees along with other surrounding vegetation.
Facilitated by the Moragahakanda Development Project Team, the effort was further supported by the Master of Business Administration in Marketing/Human Resources/Accounting and Information Management Programme 2018/2020, the Faculty of Management and Finance, and the Colombo University.
Colombo University is the oldest university in Sri Lanka, a sprawling complex located in the heart of the capital city of Colombo. It consists of nine faculties, with 56 academic departments, a campus, a school, seven institutes and eight centres and units. Many undergraduate and postgraduate study courses in the fields of Arts, Science, Medicine, Management, Finance, Law, Education, IT, Aesthetic Studies, Molecular Biology, etc. are conducted by the university.
The Faculty of Management and Finance remains a growing faculty of the Colombo University. Historical development of this faculty dates back to 1999, when the Department of Commerce and Management Studies of the Colombo University was set up. It is committed to pursuing excellence in research, teaching, community services and university-industry co-operation and collaboration, whilst making all efforts to be the centre of excellence for management and finance education in Sri Lanka.
Participants of the Master of Business Administration in Marketing/Human Resources Management (HRM)/Accounting and Information Management (AIM) Programme – 2018/2020, have planned to head a project under the subject of Business Ethics and Corporate Responsibilities. The recent Green Wave project is a part of this, and will pave the way for similar activities in future years which not only strengthen communities locally, but also create a great positive impact on a larger scale. With environmental concerns reaching breaking point in recent years, it is never too late to reel the situation under control and attempt to put in our best efforts so future generations may live fruitfully.
They thank all partners and supporters involved in this important cause, and highlight the importance of participation as considerable manpower is necessary to plant the trees. Furthermore, people from all walks of life are invited to initiate their own campaigns and see them in motion, contributing to the greater good.
