In lieu of World Environment Day, the Wana Arana Foundation, Fly Adds Ltd. together with the Municipal Council of Dehiwala launched a project to collect waste near and around the beaches of Sri Lanka. The first-of-its-kind in the country was launched on 5 June, in the beach of Mt. Lavinia.
The two organisations intend to implement this project in beaches of Arugam Bay, Polhena, Hikkaduwa, Negombo, Trincomalee, Matara, Tangalle and any other congested area in the country where it is likely to collect waste that is not degradable.
The project is named ‘Meka Ape Rata Apima Hada Ganimu’ which gives the meaning that ‘this is our country, let’s make it a better place ourselves’.
