A Swiss investor in Sri Lanka, had the shock of his life, while walking his toddlers at Weli Park, Nugegoda recently. Amid the beautiful scenery at the urban wetland park, he noticed this young crocodile catching the afternoon sun. Andres Wirz, who heads the Sri Lankan operations of Swissphoton, a BOI company that manufactures and exports solar panels immediately cautioned others to be wary.
“One of the best things about Sri Lanka is that you are never far away from Mother Nature but by the same token, one needs to be cautious especially when with kids.” His point is welltaken as there is a children park just around from where the photo was taken, and there are youth milling around feet close to water. At some of the other parks and waterways where large crocodiles have been sighted, such as at Bellanwila and along the Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Road, there are graphic warnings and fences to keep any hidden danger away.”
