President honours Sri Lankan inventors for contribution to country’s industries Inventors

President Mahinda Rajapaksa recognised the contribution of 15 inventors to the advancement of the country’s industries at the Annual Presidential Awards Ceremony for Sri Lankan Inventors held at Temple Trees recently.
The innovators were honoured for their new inventions in the categories of environment, engineering, arts, industrial and technology, and food production in 2011 and 2012.
The awards ceremony was organised by the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission on the guidance of the Technology and Research Ministry.
Entrepreneur and renowned chemist Lakshman Perera, CEO of C and T Worldwide Ltd., was one of the presidential honourees who was recognised for his valuable contribution to the field of industrial chemistry.
Perera, a graduate of University of Colombo with a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Chemistry, has served as the Process Chemist at Paranthan Chemicals Corporation in Paranthan, Jaffna, before the civil war broke out.
Later as the Managing Director and CEO of the C and T Worldwide, he was instrumental in inventing and manufacturing several products, including low aromatic white spirits and fortified rosin size – a sizing agent for use in paper manufacture.
Technology and Research Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, Ministry Secretary Dhara Wijethilake and Inventors Commission Commissioner Deepal Sooriyaarachchi also participated in the award ceremony.
