The winner of Miss Sri Lanka 2011 for Miss World 2011 Pushpika De Silva, who hails from Polonnaruwa, was crowned by Miss Sri Lanka 2010 Fallon Ranasinghe. In addition to the several other mini pageant titles, she won the titles of Veet Top Model and Best National Costume. She will represent Sri Lanka in the forthcoming Miss World 2011 pageant to be held in London.
Many aspiring young women from various parts of the country competed for the prestigious crown with an opportunity to gain invaluable experience and exposure in the company of professionals in the relevant fields of beauty, posture, personality development, grooming techniques and catwalk training.
Veet is proud to sponsor this event for the fourth consecutive year, which showcased the talents, cultural heritage, values and the inner and outer beauty of young Sri Lankan women.
“The event provided a great opportunity for these contestants to cultivate their career goals, and experience a host of other invaluable exposure that would leave a lasting impression on their lives,” said Reckitt Benckiser Assistant Brand Manager of Veet Chrishankar Janathanan.
He added: “They also serve as spokespersons representing the cream of young Sri Lankan women with the possibility of becoming ambassadors of our country, working with various organisations devoted to worthy causes.”
“Veet, with its ideal theme of ‘What Beauty Feels Like,’ was appropriate for the occasion since it was exactly what the keen contestants felt every step of the way. They experienced beauty in all its glory and will be a memory that they will cherish always,” stated SLAHAB Founder President, Beauty Consultant and Veet Brand Ambassador Nayana Karunaratne.
She added: “It was a revealing experience of tapping into the talents and potential of the young contestants and guiding them to face the pressures and demands of the international pageant.”
The invitees were ushered in to the hotel in grand style with two magnificent white stallions in attendance. The evening was a glittering fiesta of riotous colour, with an imposing stage backdrop and lighting that brought out the beauty of the contestants and their attire.
The rhythm of the drum beats created out of unorthodox material and instruments was totally out-of-the-box and created an atmosphere of mystery and mastery. It was a great finale and an endorsement to Veet’s commitment to beauty and fashion in Sri Lanka.
The first runner-up Shimalka Bodaragama from Dehiwela was also the winner of eight coveted mini pageant titles, while Chamupa Godage of Kandy was adjudged the second runner-up.
